“Health” food.

I am sick and tired of vegetarians and vegans claiming to eat healthy food. Meat is an essential part of our diet. Humans are omnivores, not herbivores or carnivores. This means we are meant to eat meat, and also meant to eat vegetables. If you do not eat meat, you are NOT EATING HEALTHILY!

For hundreds of thousands of years humans have been eating that which was available too them in a hunter-gatherer lifestyle. Cavemen would eat whatever food was in season. Grains were available most of the year around, fruit during spring and summer, vegetables would die during the winter, and meat and dairy products were only accessible when animals were nearby.

As a result, the food groups were available around: and all year round, meat was available, yet harder to come by than grains, but almost half (usually male) the caveman population was dedicated to hunting (which is why its called ‘hunter-gather’, not just ‘gatherer’).

For the past 15,000 years farming has become common place. The only effect this has had is that it has removed our reliance on the hunter-gatherer system as a means of obtaining food. As a result, foods that were only available at seasonal times, have become readily available all year round. Thus, instead of having long stretches of eating only one type of food, all types of food were available all the time.

The proportions of the food was preserved, it is only that the food was always available. The ratios of 4:3:2:3 for grains, vegetables, fruits, and dairy/meat has been preserved.

Now lets take a look at the healthy food pyramid. This is the typical pyramid as presented by the US department of health, and is accepted world wide.

Notice how the proportions of the food has not really changed here. You can see the pyramid suggests on average a ratio of 11.5:5.5:4:3.5:3.5 for grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy and meat.

So comparing, our extremely rough measures of percentages from seasons to the suggested pyramid we find: Amazing. Over hundreds of thousands of years, nothing substantial in our diet has changed. (Sure, we eat a bit more grain, but you can blame that on the last 15,000 years of farming.) Why some people now decided it would be healthier (it isn’t) not to eat meat, because people never ate that much meat (they did) is beyond me.

Eat Meat.
